The journey has begun

Salam (hi),
I’m finally in Kyrgyzstan!

After a trip that started with leaving Champaign on Thursday the 25th
at 5pm, spending 10 hours in Chicago before hoping on a 2 hour flight
to Philadelphia where I had a chance to experience the city of
brotherly love for a whopping 22 hours before myself and the 70 other
volunteers were shuffled onto a bus to the JFK airport. The 2 and a
half hour bus ride was followed by 5 hours of hanging out/napping/and
reading in JFK before boarding the 10 hour flight to Istanbul.

While passing the 6 hour layover in Turkey I visited the Blue Mosque, drank freshly squeezed pineapple juice and literally ate chestnuts that were (overly) roasted over an open fire. It was then back in the air for 5 hours and then alas we arrived in Bishkek about 2am local time on
Monday the 29th. These are the things you each have to look forward to when you come to visit me!

Since arriving in Kyrgyzstan my days have been split pretty evenly
between training classes, sleeping, and of course eating- I may
actually be eating more than I am sleeping, so much for moving to the
third world as a weight loss plan.

Tonight I move in with my host family, an adventure for sure as I have
only had 4 hours of Kyrgyz class. However, we did spend an hour today
playing charades in preparation for our home stays. I’m pretty much
an expert at miming ‘where is the toilet paper’ so I think I’m set.

That’s it for now.
